Miriam Rodriguez Martinez, a mother who vowed to spend her days hunting down the men and women from the Los Zetas Cartel who kidnapped and killed her daughter Karen Rodriguez in 2012. Over the span of a few years, she utilized social media, disguises, fake id’s, and gaining the trust of the family members of her targets in order to bring justice to San Fernando. This is her story.
Her story will be a movie from Blumhouse Productions coming sometime in 2022. It will be based off of the New York Times article on Miriam Rodriguez’s quest for justice
Matt’s Thoughts:
I’m a bit of a True Crime Junkie. I’m also a bit of a fan for vigilante/detective stories.
The horrors of the cartel in Mexico isn’t lost on most Americans. We understand the brutality of parts of the country in regards to the actions of organized crime, but what we never hear about is anyone trying to do anything about it. We hear about the violence, but never the people standing up to the crime lords. Maybe that’s because the outcome is never good for the hero of the story. But that kind of heroism should be championed, not stifled by the media.
When I first read about Miriam Rodriguez, I didn’t think I fully believed the tale. How is it that this seemingly ordinary woman could have impacted the cartel as much as she did is truly beyond me. She wanted justice for her daughter. She didn’t let threats or harassment get in her way. She was determined in a way that makes her a hero to many, even if they don’t know her name yet.
When the movie finally comes out, I do hope that more people stand up to the Cartels. I hope that her sacrifice inspires others to fight back against oppression. Let’s hope that she’s the spark that lights the powder keg and kicks off a revolution.
