The Yuba County Five were all young men with mild intellectual disabilities from Yuba City, California, United States. On February 24, 1978, the five of them went to Chico, California, to see a basketball game at California State University. Later, the bodies of 4 of the men were found miles away from where they should have been. The body of the fifth man has never been found.

Matt’s Thoughts

Many of us can relate to the story of the Yuba County Five. We’ve all taken a wrong turn and ended up in a place we didn’t know. Since this story took place before GPS was common, it’s easy to see how these five men could have ended up in the situation they were in.

What caught my attention was the fact that one of the men hasn’t been found. It seems to me that he probably succumbed to the elements, but his remains haven’t been found at all. No trace of him in nearly 45 years. The unknown is the scariest element here.

Many people have thought about and talked about this case, which is a great thing about the internet. It lets these stories live on. And it would be great if someone who knows something about the Yuba County Five would come forward. Otherwise, no one will ever know what happened to these men, and that’s the real tragedy.
